Zapier + Claude: Automated Multi-Agency Regulatory Alert Digest
What This Builds
A weekly automated digest that monitors multiple regulatory agency websites (OCC, FDIC, FinCEN, CFPB, NCUA, your state regulator) for new guidance and rule changes, and emails you a curated, AI-summarized summary every Monday morning. Instead of manually checking 6+ websites each week and scanning dozens of alert emails, you receive one digest with the key points already extracted.
Prerequisites
- Zapier account at zapier.com — free tier works for basic version; paid tier (${{tool:Zapier.price}}) for more complex automations
- Claude account for manual AI processing of the digest (or Claude API for automated processing)
- Your institution's list of applicable regulatory agencies
- Time needed: 2 hours initial build; 30 minutes/week ongoing review
The Concept
Think of this as your personal regulatory news service. Zapier monitors RSS feeds from regulatory agencies (all major agencies publish RSS feeds of their news releases). When new items appear, Zapier collects them and emails you a digest. You then paste that digest into Claude to extract the items relevant to your institution type and get a prioritized action summary.
Build It Step by Step
Part 1: Identify Your RSS Feeds
Find the RSS feed URLs for your applicable agencies:
Add your state banking regulator's RSS feed if available (check their website for "RSS" or "News Feed").
Part 2: Set Up Zapier RSS Monitoring
- Create a free account at zapier.com
- Click Create Zap
- Trigger: Search for "RSS by Zapier" → Select New Item in Feed
- Paste your first agency RSS URL (e.g., OCC)
- Test the trigger — you should see recent OCC press releases appear
Part 3: Configure the Email Digest
For the basic version:
- Action: Search for "Email by Zapier" (sends to your own email)
- Configure: Send to your compliance email address
- Subject line: "Regulatory Update: {{title}} — {{agency}}"
- Body: Include the title, publication date, summary/description, and link to the full document
- Turn on the Zap
Repeat: Create one Zap per regulatory agency (or use Zapier's "RSS Aggregator" feature if available in your plan to combine multiple feeds).
Part 4: Set Up Weekly Digest Batching (Zapier Paid Tier)
For a single weekly digest instead of individual emails:
- Use Zapier Tables or a Google Sheet as an intermediate step
- Trigger: New RSS item → Add row to Google Sheet (title, date, agency, summary, link)
- Second Zap: Every Monday at 8 AM → Get all rows from the past 7 days → Send email digest
- The digest email will contain all regulatory updates from all agencies in one weekly email
Part 5: Process the Digest with Claude
Every Monday, paste your digest into Claude with this prompt:
Here is my weekly regulatory alert digest from multiple agencies. I'm a compliance officer at [describe institution type generically — no confidential details].
For each item in the digest, assess: (1) Is this relevant to my institution type? (2) If yes, what is the key compliance implication? (3) Does this require immediate action, policy review, or is it informational only?
Format as a prioritized action list: Immediate Action items first, then Policy Review items, then Informational only.
Digest: [paste your weekly email digest]
Real Example: A Monday Morning Workflow
Setup: You have Zapier monitoring OCC, FDIC, FinCEN, and CFPB. It's sent you 14 items this week.
Input into Claude: Paste all 14 items from your digest email.
Output from Claude:
- Immediate Action (1 item): FinCEN issued an advisory on elder financial exploitation red flags effective [date]. Review your BSA training and update alert typologies.
- Policy Review (3 items): CFPB issued supervisory guidance on mortgage servicing practices. FDIC updated examination manual for deposit operations. OCC issued interpretive letter on [topic].
- Informational (10 items): Press releases, personnel announcements, and enforcement actions in other institution categories — not directly applicable to your institution type.
Time saved: You reviewed 14 items and got a prioritized action list in 5 minutes instead of 2 hours.
What to Do When It Breaks
- RSS feed stops updating → Some agencies change their RSS URLs — check the agency website for an updated feed URL
- Too many irrelevant items in the digest → Add keyword filtering in Zapier using a "Filter" step: only continue if title contains [banking/compliance/rule/guidance]
- Claude assessment is too broad or narrow → Refine your institution description in the Claude prompt — more specifics about your charter type and product lines improve relevance assessment
- Zapier free tier limits → The free tier limits you to 5 Zaps and 100 tasks/month. For monitoring 6 agencies weekly (24+ tasks/month), you may need the Starter paid tier.
Variations
- Simpler version: Skip Zapier entirely. Sign up for email alerts directly from each agency's website. Every Monday, paste all the alert emails into Claude and ask for the prioritized summary. No automation, but same Claude analysis benefit.
- Extended version: Add law firm client alert RSS feeds, trade association newsletters, and state regulator feeds to the digest for comprehensive coverage.
What to Do Next
- This week: Start with the simpler version — sign up for email alerts from your top 3 agencies and process them manually with Claude
- This month: If the manual version is valuable, build the Zapier automation to eliminate the email triage step
- Advanced: Connect to a compliance management system instead of email — have new regulatory items automatically logged as tasks
